COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Oregon youth ages 1 to 18 can get free summer meals at nearly 700 sites across the state, including one in Philomath. In Philomath, the program will serve meals at noon on weekdays from June 23 until August 22 at Clemens Primary School.  Philomath News
  • The Philomath Frolic and Rodeo will complete nearly all upgrades at Skirvin Park by July 2 for the community event running July 10 to 12—new premium seating adding nearly 1,200 spots is finished while ADA parking will be installed later this summer. Additional work on revamped restrooms and a two-story announcer’s stand continues with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 8.  Philomath News

  • Stacker used BLS data+ to rank the highest-paying science jobs in Corvallis based on median wages from May 2024, with biological scientists topping the list and wildlife biologists and conservation scientists also noted. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City staff are continuing talks with NW Natural to extend its local service for another 10 years while some councilors argue that a license would give Corvallis more control over future regulations—councilors Bowden and Olson noted that locking in current contract terms might hinder changes. The city has until the end of the year to negotiate the deal—officials say the agreement could secure $365,000 in revenue and support upcoming decarbonization efforts.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • City officials in Corvallis started a study to check funding options for a new police station and civic campus buildings, city representatives said. The study will look at ways to get money from bonds and grants and will include community input via a Zoom meeting on June 25 — a final report will be ready this fall.  KEZI
  • A bill to protect school library books that discuss different religions, sexualities, disabilities and other topics is headed to Gov. Tina Kotek’s desk and is expected to be signed soon — it passed the House on a 34-21 vote after clearing the Senate on an 18-10 vote.  Philomath News
