  • At the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo on Friday, July 11, bull riders competed in several events while a live auction raised $5,000 for accident victim Stephanie Leman—injured on June 24—for her medical care. The evening ended with a traditional fireworks show lighting the night sky.  Philomath News
  • Rick Wells was honored as the grand marshal at Saturday morning’s Philomath Frolic and Rodeo Grand Parade—he rode a red Mustang convertible and wore a light blue top hat with a matching novelty tuxedo T-shirt. He served on the Philomath School Board for 20 years and has long volunteered locally, making this a memorable nod to his community contributions.  Philomath News

  • A 55-year-old man—who body-slammed an elderly woman over spare change in the parking lot of a local Grocery Outlet—was sentenced to prison for the attack.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the 2025 Citizens’ Academy, a free program that begins Sept. 2 and runs through Oct. 21 with sessions on Tuesday evenings and two Saturday mornings at its Corvallis office — applicants, including those aged 14 to 17 with guardian consent, must apply by Aug. 28.  Philomath News
  • Corvallis Public Works is replacing the old steel pipe with a $4 million high-density polyethylene line from the Taylor Water Treatment Plant to boost water flow to North Corvallis. Boating access near the bridge is closed 100 yards upstream and downstream—until Sept 14—and crews aim to finish the in-water work by Oct 31 and complete the project in December.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
