  • The Philomath Rotary Club will host a library services presentation at noon Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Peace Lutheran Church—Thea Hart from the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library will share details on available services and upcoming events while lunch is provided for attendees who RSVP.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High earned high marks in U.S. News & World Report rankings, placing 12th in Oregon and 1,546 nationally based on test scores, graduation rates and AP performance. Joel Chadd spoke about his hometown during a recent KGNU radio interview while a feature at Lumos Wine linked music and wine taste through scientific research, showing local trends that connect education, music and business.  Philomath News

  • Corvallis marks 100 years since The Great Gatsby's publication with three events—today at the library a free movie and crafts session, a party with a dance lesson on Sept. 19, and a Majestic Theatre production on select dates—inviting local fans to join the celebration.  The Corvallis Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oregon State University has been chosen to lead a new national research center focused on making electronics resistant to radiation — a project backed by a $17 million award and involving six universities. The center will develop simulation tools and conduct experiments to help design better systems for space and defense.  The Corvallis Advocate
  • Corvallis schools will change in the 2026-27 school year as declining enrollment forces Superintendent Ryan Noss to close Cheldelin Middle School and rebrand Linus Pauling Middle School as Corvallis Junior High—adding sixth-graders to local elementary schools and planning a new mascot—with community meetings scheduled before a final decision on Nov. 13.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

  • The City Council will meet on Monday, September 15 to hear the Downtown Vitality Task Force’s report on boosting local economic strength while reviewing a reworked BDS resolution, a new tourism marketing plan, and an annexation proposal. Councilors will also vote on hiring a third-party evaluator for City Manager Mark Shepard—controversy surrounds the process amid concerns of bias.  The Corvallis Advocate
  • Executives from Republic Services hired Tweed Strategies to appeal the county planning commission’s July 30 rejection of the Coffin Butte Landfill expansion—Benton County Commissioners will review the appeal later this fall and hold a new public hearing to gather community input.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • Oregon lawmakers are debating whether to disconnect state tax policy from federal tax cuts passed in the July GOP law—warning that inaction by year-end will cost the state roughly $400M next year and $888M over two years.   • Marist Catholic beat Philomath High 3-1 in a four-set volleyball match at Philomath HS on Sept. 11 (set scores: 25-18, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-14). The Warriors will try to win their game at Junction City on Sept. 16.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High’s boys soccer team beat Marist Catholic 2 to 0 on Sept. 11 as senior goalkeeper Jake McGaughy took long kicks and the Hernandez brothers scored key goals— the team will play Junction City on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.  Philomath News
