- ➤ Today the Corvallis Arts Walk presents a range of art exhibits, artist talks and a poetry reading across several venues from 4 to 8 p.m. An after party featuring the Gender Outlaws launch will start at 7 p.m.—good weather is expected for the event. The Corvallis Advocate
- ➤ Corvallis will hold its delayed Pride festival on Oct 4 at the Benton County Fairgrounds, with shows, vendors, and a free meal from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special adult party called Pride AfterDark will start at 7 p.m.—featuring drag acts, dancing, and music. Corvallis Gazette-Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Corvallis Fire Department is preparing to conduct a controlled burn at Herbert Farm & Natural Area to restore natural habitats and reduce wildfire risk. Fire officials say the burn covering 40 acres on the city-owned site is scheduled for Sept. 27 pending safe weather conditions and will involve teams from local departments. KEZI
- ➤ Scientists at OSU have developed new MOFs—stacked crystals that increase light efficiency four times—which may lead to greener and cheaper LED technology that uses less energy and rare earth metals. The research lays the groundwork for future lighting and display designs that could cut energy use. The Corvallis Advocate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the U.S. Justice Department sued Oregon and Maine for not handing over large amounts of personal voter data. Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read said that full data release would violate privacy rights — the department claims states must comply with federal law. Philomath News
- ➤ Gov. Kotek on Tuesday ordered state agencies to cancel non-essential out-of-state travel and begin cost-cutting measures as the state faces a nearly $375 million shortfall after an expected surplus turned to a deficit — the chief financial officer will set targets for further spending reductions to maintain key services. - ➤ On Sept 15, city councilors heard from residents who shared their personal experiences of hate while discussing a proposal to stop investing in companies linked to genocide and other abuses — supporters said the measure would reject hate while critics argued it unfairly targeted Israel.
