- ➤ Philomath High senior CD Nuño committed to Boise State to play football after his two-year mission and visited Boise after a win on Sept. 26 + he said the team’s coaches treated him and his family well. A Fox 12 feature examined Philomath’s timber industry revival as Timberlab plans a new CLT facility and PHS student Lukas Hernandez won first place in a Benton photo contest for his aerial shot of the river. - ➤ The Arts Center launches Unlocking Art, a new guided tour where trained volunteers will offer fresh perspectives on Weight by Crista Ames starting Tuesday, October 7 and continuing on additional Tuesday and Saturday dates this month. - ➤ Philomath School District’s 2024-25 state test results show mixed recovery after the pandemic as eighth-grade math scores rose by over 10% while third-grade reading dropped by about 13%, which worries administrators; Superintendent Susan Halliday said the district will study if test anxiety or low participation plus other factors are behind the changes to guide future improvements. - ➤ Since October 1, Oregon has enforced new SNAP work requirements in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Yamhill, Benton and Hood River counties—able-bodied adults without dependents must work or volunteer 80 hours a month or receive only three months of benefits over three years. State officials and food banks have raised concerns that these changes, affecting over 313,000 SNAP participants and reducing utility allowances for some, may worsen food shortages. Philomath News
- ➤ The Philomath Housing and Economic Development Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the conference room at the Philomath Police Department to review an affordable housing project at 20th and Main and consider a 33-unit, four-story mid-rise apartment proposal by The Commonwealth Companies—committee members will also examine a regional economic development plan to identify key focus areas. - ➤ The Philomath High School football team lost its league opener to Crescent Valley 20—15 Friday night at Field of Dreams as key plays in the final minutes fell short. Coach Alex Firth said the team will work hard this week as they prepare for their Thursday game in Cottage Grove. Philomath News
