COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Starting today, the Corvallis-Albany Farmers’ Markets are launching a temporary emergency program to match SNAP benefits so customers can receive up to $20 in Double Up Food Bucks—even with little or no SNAP funds—to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, and plants. Shoppers must bring their SNAP cards to the designated booth at either market, and the program will run until December 31.  The Corvallis Advocate
  • Local donors gave thousands of dollars to the Corvallis wildlife center but donations are still shy of the year-end goal. The wildlife center welcomed a new director — who is looking for a fresh start — to guide its future efforts.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Corvallis school board will hold another meeting on Letitia Carson after a Thursday night meeting saw heavy turnout from parents and students. At least one board member stated he will vote at the upcoming session—raising questions about potential changes.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • OSU scientists led an international team in a report that said 2024 was the hottest year on record and likely the hottest in 125,000 years—warning that rising climate risks may harm peace, public health, and nature. The report calls for quick measures such as more solar and wind power and protecting forests and wetlands to slow dangerous warming.  The Corvallis Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath's senior Rocco De La Rosa led the Warriors to a 26–14 win over Sweet Home on Friday, Oct. 31 with 305 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns—this win advanced the team to the Class 4A state playoffs. The team, ranked No.10 by OSAA, will face La Grande in their next game.  Philomath News
