EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at Oregon State University have developed a standard language to describe the smells of cannabis and hemp using 25 terms to group four scent profiles — including fruity, citrus, and musty notes. Professor Tom Shellhammer said the tool will help consumers, retailers, and growers judge quality beyond just THC levels. KEZI
- ➤ Researchers from Oregon State University and Utrecht University studied over (12,000 families) and found that children who received more acceptance and less negativity faced fewer challenges as parents. The study (published in Psychological Bulletin) shows that early parenting experiences have a long-lasting effect on later parenting styles. KEZI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new traffic signal on Highway 42 at Rolling Hills Road will be operational tomorrow as part of an $11.97 million safety project, officials said—drivers should expect lane closures and push-button crosswalks at the intersection during installation. KEZI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Health Authority found that in 2023 five health care organizations exceeded cost growth limits—three, including The Corvallis Clinic, must now submit improvement plans to reduce spending. The program aims to control rising costs and will review its standards after a meeting on Nov. 19. KEZI

- ➤ Philomath High runners Cassidy Smart, Leo Pausch — and Galen Murch competed at the Nike NXR Northwest Regional Championships in Spokane on Saturday. Smart placed 11th among 851 runners in the 5 kilometer race while Pausch won his heat and Murch finished in 16:57, one of his best times. Philomath News
