About this event
Breathing Freely: Pranayama Workshop with Joseph Bailey
Just like wind represents movement out of stillness, breath is the physical manifestation of the subtlest movement in life. Underlying the breath is life force energy referred to in different cultures by different names: prajna, chi, spiritus. The practices of pranayama are intended to use the breath as a vehicle to experience the underlying life energy. In this workshop, we'll map a range of practices drawn from contemporary science and classical traditions. Some will be techniques to calm or activate your nervous system or to sharpen focus, while others will be opportunities to settle into meditative states. We'll explore how refining the breath refines awareness itself, how practice becomes integrated into daily spiritual life, and how attention to breathing becomes attention to conscious presence.
