About this event
In this talk, Michael Gundale will present recent analyses of wood isotopes across Sweden that shed light on how conifer forests in Sweden are responding to environmental change. He will also share carbon accounting and albedo data from two contrasting chronosequences in Swedish Lapland: one consisting of primary unmanaged forests initiated by wildfire, and the other consisting of even-age managed forests initiated by clear-cutting. Together, these datasets provide insights into the climate feedback trajectory of Swedish forests in transition, and boreal forests more broadly.
Michael Gundale is a Professor of Forest Vegetation Ecology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå. His research is focused on forest functional ecology, where he investigates how forest plants interact with soils to control a variety of ecosystem properties and processes, such as productivity, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity.
This talk is sponsored by the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society in the College of Forestry.
