EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Philomath High School hosted its Dancing With the Stars competition Saturday with 10 teams. West Albany led the Traditional division with 83.28 points while the Shining Stars won Hip Hop and placed third in Traditional, and coach Jordyn McMullen said the routine—dedicated to her late father—gave the team useful feedback. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Philomath Fire and Rescue is closing its Wren substation within the next 30 days because property owners did not renew the lease and volunteers are few. The district is working with the property owners for possible future options while its main station continues to serve the area. Philomath News
- ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek convened her new Prosperity Council on Jan. 22 to seek ideas for boosting Oregon’s economic productivity — which now lags by nearly $25,000 per capita — with members including Ampere Computing founder Renee James and Port of Portland executive Curtis Robinhold. Philomath News

- ➤ Philomath High School's swim team, led by state champion Lucas Brandt plus seniors Cameron McLennan and Mason Stevens, will begin district championships today at Albany Community Pool, aiming for strong relay and individual performances that may qualify them for state.
