ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • OSU researchers tested a plant-based coating with chitosan on grapes to block smoke compounds near harvest — some tests showed lower levels in Pinot noir while others indicated the coating may absorb smoke compounds. Researchers plan further studies to improve the method.  The Corvallis Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County Emergency Manager Bryan Lee urged Philomath residents at the Rotary Club meeting yesterday to register for Linn-Benton Alert and be two-weeks ready with supplies (drinking water, food, and medication). Low registration rates highlight household challenges in preparing for local hazards.  Philomath News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oregon State University researchers reported that a study in Corvallis linking gut bacteria to cancer survival in 51 dogs found 11 types of bacteria associated with longer or shorter survival (the study used a new cancer vaccine immunotherapy). Future microbiome tests may help predict a dog’s treatment response.  KEZI
