OSU researchers tested a plant-based coating with chitosan on grapes to block smoke compounds near harvest — some tests showed lower levels in Pinot noir while others indicated the coating may absorb smoke compounds.
Researchers plan further studies to improve the method.

Oregon State University researchers reported that a study in Corvallis linking gut bacteria to cancer survival in 51 dogs found 11 types of bacteria associated with longer or shorter survival (the study used a new cancer vaccine immunotherapy).
Future microbiome tests may help predict a dog’s treatment response.
