  • Marys River Grange will host its first Soup Off fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 22 with soup tasting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Marys River Grange Hall to fund a kitchen remodel and a bake sale; admission is $10 for ages 12+ and $5 for younger participants.  Philomath News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Republic Services said today that its earlier filings for the Coffin Butte Landfill expansion remain enough because no new adjudicated facts have emerged. The company will not seek further reviews of the project.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Tina Kotek and lawmakers are using hundreds of millions plus funds to fight Oregon’s affordable housing crisis by introducing programs like expanding mobile home communities for older residents; in Benton County, over 60% of renters face high housing costs that burden their income.  Philomath News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A recall effort targeting the entire school board is underway, though records show the district has never seen such an attempt before. Local officials will review the situation and share details when available.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Oregon House passed a bill that will require public schools and universities to notify communities when federal immigration agents enter campus. The law will go into effect in September and now heads to the Senate for review.  Philomath News
  • Benton County recognized the Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans incarcerated during WWII at its commissioners meeting on Tuesday. Janet Seiko Nishihara (OSU Educational Opportunities Program) and deputy district attorney Kevin Hashizume shared personal family histories to honor those affected.  Philomath News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath and Newport are tied atop the league at 6-2 after the Warriors lost 70-51 at Cascade on Tuesday and the Cubs beat Stayton 69-59. Philomath hosts Stayton Friday at 7 p.m. during Senior Night while Newport travels to Sweet Home — a title game arrives Feb. 24 on the coast.  Philomath News
