EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philomath School District clarified safety protocols for handling potential federal immigration presence on campus based on teacher requests. The board plans an update in April to refine policies that protect students and families — adjustments reflecting ongoing review.  Philomath News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal officials propose to increase logging on BLM lands near Philomath to nearly 1 billion board feet annually, compared with last year's 250 million board feet. Public comments are due by March 23 & the agency plans to revise management plans across 2.5 million acres.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corvallis Public Works will begin the final-phase grinding and paving for a water pipeline replacement project the week of March 23 on 35th Street from Washington Way to Western Boulevard. Detours and lane striping will be set up to guide traffic.  KEZI
  • Republic Services will appeal Benton County’s rejection of its permit to expand Coffin Butte Landfill, company officials said after weighing their options + planning next steps.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

  • Samaritan is set to launch a mobile OB-GYN clinic in April in Corvallis. The program is designed for a specific patient group but will be available to all seeking care.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath High’s boys volleyball team swept Marist Catholic in a three-set match on Monday, March 16 at Marist Catholic HS in Eugene. Coach Helen Bennett — who is merging returning seniors with new players — said the team will host a home opener against Newport on March 31.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High softball won its season opener Wednesday with a 16-5 victory at Blanchet Catholic in Salem (the team scored 10 runs in the first inning and collected 15 hits). It will compete in the Battle of the Beach tournament on Monday and Tuesday.  Philomath News
