COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Corvallis Indoor Winter Market opens today at Guerber Hall at 9 a.m., offering local produce, food, and artisan goods. Visitors can enjoy shopping and supporting neighborhood vendors + building community ties.  The Corvallis Advocate
  • Corvallis Housing First held a groundbreaking for Third Street Commons on March 19 to begin constructing a 47 unit permanent supportive housing project for people experiencing chronic homelessness. The project will offer furnished studio & one bedroom apartments with health & case management, and construction completes in September 2027.  The Corvallis Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artists and galleries participated in the Corvallis Arts Walk on March 19 at downtown venues where exhibits ranged from nature themes to dystopian art, and locations were open from 4 pm to 8 pm with select receptions starting at 5:30 pm.  The Corvallis Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSU professors expressed a sense of betrayal after Chavez revelations raised questions about whether the university will drop his name from the cultural center.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • Local summer camp registrations for preschool and elementary students are available now, though many sessions are full with waitlists open. Options include nature sessions at Corvallis Environmental Center (Caterpillar Camps) from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and themed camps running mid-June to August.  The Corvallis Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State Fish and Wildlife officials said that white-nose syndrome was found in six bats in Columbia and Benton Counties this month, marking the first time the deadly fungal disease has been detected in Oregon. Scientists will continue testing and working with rehabilitators to monitor bat roosts.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Republic Services appealed the county’s decision to reverse its landfill expansion permit after new DEQ evidence led to reconsideration. County officials said they received the appeal notice Tuesday night and will meet with EPA and DEQ in coming months to address environmental violations.  The Corvallis Advocate
