Philomath High School forestry students are competing in the annual Future Natural Resources Leadership State Convention—kicked off today at Oregon State University with technical events and set to continue tomorrow at Brooks.

Eighteen students earned placements in events including cable splicing, crosscut saw, and arbor climb.

A county official rejected the special-use permit on April 24th for the proposed CleanLane Resource Recovery Facility in Goshen—citing that the light industrial zone prohibits waste-related uses—and Lane County can appeal the decision by May 5th.

Philomath High School won 10-4 at Stayton’s Joe Brock Park on Wednesday, extending its 5-0 conference record and outscoring opponents 76-15.

The series shifts back to Philomath at 5 p.m. Thursday as the team improves its season record to 12-2-1 plus its six straight wins highlight its strong performance.

Senior Grant Niemann hit a walk-off home run on Thursday evening to give Philomath High a 12-11 win over Stayton, marking a standout moment in his final game.

Philomath swept the series — finishing 13-2-1 overall — and will face Cascade next week.
