- ➤ A volunteer workday is scheduled for Saturday at Mount Union Cemetery from 9 a.m. to noon, where community members will clean headstones, trim grass and clear debris, with coffee and pastries provided. Future sessions are planned through October. Philomath News

- ➤ The robotics team from Crescent Valley overcame challenges to return to the highly competitive FIRST championship after three years. The team will now compete internationally as they prepare to showcase local talent. Corvallis Gazette-Times

- ➤ Benton and Lincoln counties launched a wildfire awareness campaign this May to help residents prepare with defensible space and evacuation planning as fire season approaches. County emergency managers note that signing up for local alerts can provide timely updates for safety. Philomath News
- ➤ A new 46.8 kilowatt solar array was installed at C3 – the community center near OSU – after local contractors donated materials and labor to honor solar advocate James Reismiller; the system now supplies about 41% of the center’s annual power, and it was coordinated by his wife, Cassandra Robertson. - ➤ Four Benton County fire agencies will share nearly $6 million in state wildfire grants to hire seasonal firefighters + additional shift work for the 2026 wildfire season. The program, announced May 1, awards Philomath Fire and Rescue, Hoskins-Kings Valley Rural Fire Protection District, Adair Rural Fire Protection District, and Monroe Rural Fire Protection District. - ➤ The Philomath High School girls golf team finished fifth at district championships held May 4-5 at Mallard Creek Golf Course near Lebanon, and senior Isabelle Muir placed eighth individually with a 36-hole score of 195. Philomath News
- ➤ Philomath’s boys volleyball team played its final regular season home game on Tuesday, May 5 at Philomath HS against No. 9 Willamette Valley Christian — falling in four sets while nearly forcing a fifth.
