COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Corvallis Public Works Department invites residents on Wednesday, June 10 for a guided tour of the Corvallis Forest in the Rock Creek watershed. The free tour departs City Hall at 4:30 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m., focusing on forest management and the updated stewardship plan (registration required).  City of Corvallis

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Philomath Youth Activities Club has opened registration for Fun in the Sun summer camp running weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from June 17 through Aug. 21. Families registering early before May 15 can waive the $25 fee — space is limited to 50 children per day.  Philomath News
  • Two Corvallis schools will host special events before they close — offering students and community members a chance to honor each school's history. Officials say the planned gatherings will feature programs that mark the transition.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Siuslaw National Forest proposed fee adjustments at recreation sites across Coos, Douglas, Lane and Tillamook counties to meet rising costs and increased visitation—public comments are open through July 15 and a review panel will assess recommendations after the period closes.  Philomath News

  • The Philomath boys volleyball team won two nonleague matches at Creswell on Wednesday, May 6—defeating the host school in four sets and Cottage Grove in three. They played Toledo at 6 p.m. Thursday to resume Special District 3 play ahead of next week’s tournament.  Philomath News
  • Philomath lost 25-8 to Cascade at Warrior Field (May 6) after scoring eight runs in the third inning from a 20-0 deficit; coach Kari Jaques said the squad is building its fighting spirit ahead of its rescheduled game against Newport at 5:15 p.m.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High rallied past Newport 14-13 Thursday at Warrior Field as Hailey Smith pitched a complete game and Riley Mason delivered the walk-off hit, snapping a seven-game losing streak + the team will play North Marion Monday at 5 p.m.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High’s baseball team won 16-4 in six innings against Cascade at Terry Stephenson Field on May 7. Junior AJ Altishin hit a three-run homer that helped secure two wins in the series ahead of a home game series with Newport on Monday.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High's girls tennis team swept West Albany 8-0 at home on Wednesday, May 6 with decisive 10-point tiebreak wins — the Warriors will play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Woodburn.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High’s boys golf team competed in a five-school tournament at Salishan Golf Links in Gleneden Beach on Wednesday, May 6, where senior Roman Robins finished seventh with a score of 93 (from round totals of 47 on the front and 46 on the back). The team will now prepare for the Oregon West Conference championships on Monday and Tuesday at Tokatee Golf Club.  Philomath News
