- ➤ Corvallis nonprofit Unity Shelter will suspend its Men’s Shelter, Room at the Inn and Emergency Hotel Shelter programs and cut about 80% of its staff on July 1 due to funding uncertainty, affecting around 80 people who use these services each night. The nonprofit will keep running its Hygiene Center and SafePlace program while urging state action on House Bill 5011 — local shelter options remain limited. Corvallis Gazette-Times

- ➤ The Tuesday String Band, a bluegrass trio from Monmouth, will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 14 at Marys River Grange in Philomath — admission is $10 and a bluegrass jam session will follow the concert. Philomath News

- ➤ The Philomath Youth Activities Club is accepting registrations for its Fun in the Sun summer camp and child-care for children entering first grade through age 12. The camp runs weekdays from 7:30 a.m.—5:30 p.m. from June 18—Aug. 22 with full-time care at $160 per week and drop-in care at $50 per day; early registrants by May 16 get the $25 registration fee waived and complete information must be submitted by May 23 as space is limited to 50 children per day. - ➤ Residents from Benton County and others testified against the proposed expansion of Coffin Butte Landfill on May 6—citing concerns over worsening odor and potential health risks from harmful chemicals. The planning commission extended the public hearing until June 17—limiting oral testimony to new evidence and allowing Republic Services seven days after record closure to submit written responses.
