Philomath High School baseball beat Newport 6-2 Monday as Caleb Babcock struck out 14 in six innings — the Warriors are tied for second and will head to Newport today with a 5 p.m. first pitch at Frank Wade Memorial Field.

Philomath’s promising tennis players advanced in the Special District 2 Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday at Estacada HS.

Freshman Cameron Barlow, Senior Nate Houck, and doubles duo Lane Schell and Liam Cole won their matches as the tournament continues Thursday and Friday at Salem Swim and Tennis Club.

The Philomath girls tennis team won six of eight matches at the Special District 2 Tournament on Monday at Molalla HS and advanced in singles and doubles; the event—continuing Thursday and Friday in Salem—sets the stage for more competitive play.

After nearly 27 years, Corvallis Sports Park will close on June 7 due to financial challenges; new owners plan to convert it into an indoor pickleball facility with final league games on June 6 and renovations through summer (new courts open early fall).

Philomath High School senior Roman Robins posted a 93 in the first round of the Oregon West Conference championships at Tokatee Golf Club near Blue River on May 11—he placed tenth—while his team scored 428, and Cascade led with a 329 score.
