- ➤ Governor Tina Kotek signed House Bill 3020 on May 7 that bans bets on dog races, ending Oregon’s role in supporting greyhound racing, which has been inactive since 2004 & has drawn criticism from animal rights advocates. Lawmakers had long sought to remove the betting loophole that allowed wagering on foreign dog races. Philomath News

- ➤ Philomath High’s inaugural boys and girls golf teams ended their district tournaments as the boys finished fifth and the girls finished fourth—both teams were close to qualifying for state. The boys volleyball team tied for first in district standings and will compete in a tournament this Saturday at Estacada—showing strong effort ahead of state play. Philomath News
- ➤ Philomath High kept its postseason hopes alive with a 16-1 mercy rule win against Newport at Warrior Field on Wednesday, with freshman Hailey Smith throwing a six-hitter—The team will play at North Marion today at 5 p.m. and a win there may secure an at-large playoff bid. Philomath News
- ➤ The Philomath High School baseball team won a 9-1 game against North Marion Wednesday on the road, with junior Rocco De La Rosa going 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs and the win helped secure a playoff berth.
