CRIME NEWS

  • The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple incidents last April and May including a Highway 20 crash on April 26 near Philomath where a 25-year-old driver was warned for drowsy driving and his Ford F150 was towed for a dead battery with under $2,500 in damages—authorities also handled a juvenile fight on April 29 at a Gellatly Way home, a fraud case on May 6 involving alleged identity theft with a disputed credit card charge for a cat, and a debit card fraud report plus a DUII arrest of a 49-year-old man on May 7 near Monroe with a blood alcohol level of .23%.  Philomath News

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, a retro gaming event will take place in Corvallis where locals will be able to play classic arcade games and buy retro goods. The event promises button mashing and joystick maneuvering for fans of vintage gaming.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County was chosen as one of four statewide participants in Housing 360 to help people with mental illness find stable homes and supportive services. The county’s homelessness office received $900,000 and will use existing systems—serving at least 15 households at first—to match available housing with those in need.  Philomath News
  • State Senator Sara Gelser Blouin backed a proposal seeking $5 million in state funding to repair urgent issues at Osborn Aquatic Center—only the outdoor pool is open for limited use while the main facility remains closed. City officials and local sports teams say the repairs will help restore a facility that supports about 700 weekly swimming lessons, has led to more than 150 employee furloughs and cost the community $1.5 million in lost revenue.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
