- ➤ The Philomath Youth Activities Club needs about 40 student volunteers for its May 29 Community Kids Carnival at Philomath High School where the event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; volunteers must sign up by May 26 to receive a free T-shirt and meal and help keep children safe. Philomath News

- ➤ OSU will take over a local child care center after the provider pulled out. Some parents say the new hours planned do not meet their needs — they worry about scheduling conflicts. Corvallis Gazette-Times

- ➤ Philomath High senior Lucy King earned a state berth in tennis after placing fourth in singles at the Special 2 District Tournament in Salem on Friday. She will compete at the OSU Tennis Complex from Thursday through Saturday. Philomath News
