Good morning, Corvallis. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 29th of May.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Linn-Benton Community College broke ground on a $14 million agricultural center on May 22nd with 75 people in attendance. The new facility will offer on-site animal science and livestock management training — it will cut travel time for students and begin construction in late spring or early summer with Phase 1 finishing in late 2026.  Philomath News
  • Philomath Academy will gain more classroom space at the district office this summer when the Department of Special Programs and Student Services moves to the library computer lab — officials said the extra area may be partitioned to create a meeting room.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 22, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that could force Oregon to lose federal Medicaid match dollars if it keeps providing health care to undocumented immigrants—putting the state's long-standing health coverage for low-income residents at risk. Senate leaders plan to amend and vote on the bill before July 4, leaving Oregon lawmakers with a difficult choice between maintaining their principles and avoiding steep funding cuts.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • The Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments integrated the Philomath Connection bus service into the CW Ride website and Transit mobile app, expanding digital options for riders between Philomath and Corvallis. The fareless service offers wheelchair access and bicycle racks and provides real-time bus tracking—helping local residents plan their trips with ease.  Philomath News
  • An investigation found that Travel Oregon now operates with over $45 million in annual funding and little oversight, with longtime executive director Todd Davidson earning a total of $472,000. Davidson announced his retirement one day before a scheduled interview on the agency’s practices, which critics say reveal a need for greater accountability in state government.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
