COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Vintage vehicle enthusiasts will gather Saturday at Philomath City Park for the annual Philomath Classic Car Show, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature 25 judged categories with cars ranging from classics to electrics. Organizers praise the unique grass venue—one of the few in the region—and local food vendors will serve breakfast and lunch to families and fans.  Philomath News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Cascades West Economic Development District has released a five-year economic development plan for Benton, Lane, Lincoln and Linn counties and is accepting public comment beginning Friday through Aug. 10. Officials said the plan will guide funding and regional growth efforts — community feedback will help shape the final document.  Philomath News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Philomath School Board reorganized Monday evening at Philomath High School Community Conference Room by electing Erin Gudge as board chair and Tom Klipfel as vice chair following the May election. The board also set liaison roles and work sessions for upcoming meetings—aiming to streamline discussions and better align strategic planning with community input.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a Philomath Fire and Rescue crew went to the Rogue Valley to help fight wildfires sparked by lightning; structural and wildland firefighters from the region worked to keep the fires small. The Oregon State Fire Marshal sent extra task forces from Benton and Lane counties—local teams aimed to contain the blazes before they grew larger.  Philomath News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Samaritan's nurses and CEO warned that the new federal bill may force up to 200,000 Oregonians to lose Medicaid coverage and could lead to program closures, longer ER wait times, and tougher choices for the hospital—nurses held protest signs in Corvallis as they highlighted that one in five patients relies on Medicaid.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • More than 700 nurses from the Oregon Nurses Association have been negotiating for fair contracts at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis and Samaritan Community Hospital in Lebanon since March + they are opposing proposed cuts to birthing centers in Lebanon and Lincoln City over concerns that reduced staffing will harm local communities.  KEZI
