EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philomath High School graduates (Grace Bennett, Brooke Clemens, Allison Neelands, Elise Reese, and Mikaila Saathoff) earned college dean's list recognition for the spring semester; Bennett, Clemens, Reese, and Saathoff are at Linfield University while Neelands is at Hartwick College, each meeting the required GPA for their programs.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said the decision for the Coffin Butte Landfill may come as early as July 22—one week before the scheduled date of July 29. They explained that faster internal reviews may have prompted the change in timing.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • Oregon Governor Tina Kotek declared a statewide emergency on Wednesday to coordinate state, federal, and local firefighting resources as forecasts show wildfires growing due to extreme high temperatures across the Northwest—this order follows several recent individual fire declarations covering nearly 60 active fires, primarily in southern Oregon— and it will remain in effect until the threat subsides or the fire season ends.  Philomath News
