- ➤ The Benton County Sheriff's Office is hosting its 16th annual Back to School Supply Drive in Corvallis, which runs until August 26—community members may donate school supplies or cash donations, with $35 providing a student with supplies for the school year. - ➤ A local resident near North Ninth Street asked the city for wildlife caution signs to alert drivers to hazards for animals and pedestrians. - ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek has a new plan to save jobs at the Department of Transportation and local governments. The plan raises the gas tax by 6 cents, increases fees for vehicle titles, registrations, and electric vehicles, and doubles the transit payroll tax while postponing layoffs for 45 days and calling a special session on Aug. 29—she is confident lawmakers will fund state transportation needs.
