  • Philomath will host its annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Philomath City Park—neighbors, families and emergency services will gather with booths, displays and food to boost public safety awareness. Local partners including the police, fire rescue and National Guard will offer activities such as a Junior Detective Investigation to engage community members.  Philomath News
  • Severe weather on the East Coast forced organizers at the Benton County Fair to switch the Friday night concert lineup. A Salem-based rock band that won Thursday’s Battle of the Bands replaced the stranded tribute act — with Skynny Lyzyrd opening at 7 p.m. and the band headlining at 8:30 p.m.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The new Van Buren Bridge, which replaces the 1913 structure, is open for eastbound traffic and now offers a path for pedestrians and cyclists while meeting updated seismic safety standards. Officials said they will remove temporary bridges and complete final paving by October 31 — work that will continue with landscaping into 2026 — marking a major step in one of Corvallis's largest construction projects.  KEZI

  • Benton County Health Department will host four free events in Corvallis and Monroe to raise drug overdose awareness and train residents to use naloxone ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day Aug. 31 — events include vigils and overdose response training on Aug. 13, 21, 22, and 29.  Philomath News
