CRIME NEWS

  • Corvallis police arrested 29-year-old Austin Alan Bartell around 4:06 p.m. Friday near NW 9th Street — NW Hayes Avenue after he robbed 81-year-old Robert Henderson near NW 14th Street — NW 14th Place; officers recovered his cell phone and confirmed he was not injured.  KEZI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The wildfire near Oakridge now called the Aubrey Mountain Fire grew to 35 acres and forced a Level 3 evacuation on Dunning Road and Roberts Ranch Road. Highway 58 reopened on Aug. 8 with flaggers directing one lane—firefighters are working with crews and aircraft to fight the blaze.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County’s housing program moved 54 households from homelessness and provided stable homes to 122 people (including 53 children) since it started in July 2024, beating its goal of 51 households. The program works with local groups and will expand services as state funds come in.  Philomath News
  • U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden will hold a town hall on August 20 at 4 p.m. at Philomath High School as part of his statewide tour — the event will not allow backpacks or large bags for security reasons.  Philomath News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oregon Health Authority reminded mothers that a state law protects the right to breastfeed in public. A lactation consultant from Linn County said some mothers are asked to cover up and urged them to practice breastfeeding for comfort — the state continues to encourage public spaces to support this right.  KEZI
