ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 18, fire crews responded to two large wildfires near Philomath — one started before 2:30 p.m. near Seeley Creek on Alsea Highway and was contained at 2.96 acres, while another broke out just after 5:30 p.m. on Airport Road near Cutler Lane and grew to 17.86 acres before being controlled with no damage to homes or injuries.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • After an armed robbery at the Fish Peddler Market parking lot in Newport on August 15, three men were arrested in Corvallis less than two hours later and charged with crimes—robbery, coercion, theft, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County and ODOT held an open house on August 14 at Cheldelin Middle School to gather public feedback on a north-south bike and pedestrian path along Highway 99W in North Corvallis. Officials will review comments and the $743,000 funding to decide if the path should be built on the east or west side as planning continues.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
