- ➤ The Philomath Youth Activities Club is launching its 18th annual Getaway Giveaway Raffle so community members can win vacation prizes while supporting local youth programs. Tickets cost $10 each or three for $25 with only 1,000 available and the drawing is on Oct. 20— the grand prize is a weeklong stay at Marival Emotions Resort in Nuevo Vallarta with airfare for two and a $1,200 allowance while winners pay resort fees. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In July, Benton County’s unemployment rate was 4% after losing 130 jobs from June and 190 fewer nonfarm jobs from last July, while Oregon’s overall rate rose to a record 5% since July 2021. State data showed that financial, professional and health care sectors lost many jobs even though construction and transportation gained, and Intel laid off 2,400 workers in July — a sign of wider manufacturing cuts — as job losses continued.
