- ➤ Corvallis School District installed the city’s first traffic garden at Lincoln Elementary School to give kids a safe, car-free area for practicing biking and walking skills—work began August 18 as part of the Safe Routes to School Program with help from Alta Planning and Design and local volunteers. - ➤ OSU researchers led by Leigh Torres were named regional winners of the 2025 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award for a project that studies and reduces whale entanglements to protect Oregon's Dungeness crab fishery. Their work advances to the national stage to compete for the C. Peter Magrath Award and a $20,000 prize—bringing together scientists and local partners for better coastal management.
