ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sept. 7, Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire and Rescue and Coburg Fire District quickly contained a grass fire near the Mt. Pisgah horse arena after an individual’s garden hose attempt failed—fire officials said the fire, which covered less than half an acre, was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.  KEZI

CRIME NEWS

  • A Corvallis man is accused of swinging a katana at a victim—reportedly after calling him a pedophile—and assaulting his girlfriend.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Corvallis Public Schools Superintendent Ryan Noss submitted recommendations that include closing Cheldelin Middle School and later Crescent Valley High, keeping elementary schools open with an extra grade and converting Mountain View Elementary into a kindergarten through eighth grade school — steps taken in response to declining enrollment and state funding. The district will host public listening sessions on September 16 at Lincoln Elementary, September 17 at Linus Pauling Middle School for Spanish speakers, and September 30 at Corvallis High, with board meetings on September 11, 25 and October 16 to gather community input.  The Corvallis Advocate

  • Philomath High's boys soccer team opened its season Monday with an 8-0 win over Elmira as Jacob Hernandez scored four goals. The game ended early at the 75th minute due to the mercy rule—Philomath will host Marist Catholic Thursday—setting the stage for upcoming conference play.  Philomath News
