EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heather Peacock at LBCC is using staff retreats to keep nursing faculty in the classroom—more than half left in one term over heavy work and low pay. The college received a portion of a $2.6 million grant from Salem lawmakers that will help reduce turnover by 2028. Corvallis Gazette-Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a neighbor’s complaint on Saturday, Sept 13 ended salsa dancing at Common Fields, city councilors suspended the 43 year old noise ordinance for commercial businesses. They directed staff to draft new rules after 12 police calls from the same neighbor this year—aimed at better balancing business events and neighborhood peace. Corvallis Gazette-Times
- ➤ The Benton County Sheriff's Office and Corvallis CERT are hosting a free emergency preparedness training course on Oct. 11-12 at the Corvallis Fire Training Center. The course offers 12 hours of online learning and two full days of hands-on practice from 8 a.m.—4 p.m., and it is open to adults 18 and older with youth allowed when accompanied by an adult. - ➤ Philomath High’s boys soccer team won 4-1 against Gladstone on Sept 18th at their home field—Sammy Hernandez scored a hat trick while the team kept an undefeated nonconference record. The Warriors will play in Oregon West Conference action at Sweet Home on Sept 25th. Philomath News
