COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Corvallis Gazette-Times laid off reporter Tom Henderson and photographer Jessica Hume-Pantuso while the local School Board seeks four citizen volunteers for its Budget Committee with applications due by Oct 31—additionally the American Red Cross will hold blood drives in Corvallis on Oct 3, Oct 9 and Oct 10 and in Philomath on Oct 14 with a $10 Amazon gift offered to donors giving by Oct 19.  The Corvallis Advocate
  • Marys River Grange will host Harvest Fest in Philomath on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—featuring about 20 local vendors, live music, outdoor games, and apple cider as proceeds will fund a much-needed kitchen upgrade. The annual event also includes a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.  Philomath News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stayton’s boys soccer team beat Philomath 4 to 1 on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Philomath HS—senior Isaiah Dixon scored three times to lead the win and force Philomath’s first loss in Oregon West play. Philomath coach Dave Ellis said the team will work harder as they prepare to host Cascade Thursday at 4 p.m.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High School girls soccer team won its third straight shutout by beating Stayton 4-0 on Sept. 30 at Stayton HS + sophomore Kya Bolton scored two goals while senior Ana Candanoza and sophomore Bella Nunez also scored to secure the win. The Warriors will travel to Cascade on Thursday at 4 p.m. to face the Cougars and improve their record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.  Philomath News
  • Cascade rallied against Philomath Tuesday night at Cascade HS to win 3—1 with scores of 14—25, 25—23, 27—25, and 25—17. PHS junior Megan Ward had 17 kills as the Warriors dropped to 8—4 and the Cougars improved to 9—4.  Philomath News
