  • Pastor Rachel Profitt was installed on Sept. 7 at New Life Fellowship Foursquare Church at 1412 Applegate St.—She left a larger church to lead the 37-member congregation in Philomath and plans to build strong relationships by hosting recovery and study groups.  Philomath News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Benton County Genealogical Society will host its monthly program featuring a RootsTech video presentation titled 'Becoming Betsey' on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Philomath Museum+ a members meeting opens at 10:30 a.m. for anyone interested in learning new research techniques for finding female ancestors.  Philomath News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Oregon State University surpassed $417 million in research expenditures for the second year in a row—this spending has generated nearly $800 million in local economic impact. The university completed the PacWave facility and will open the Collaborative Innovation Complex in 2026 to boost advances in energy, precision medicine and artificial intelligence.  KEZI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath High won a boys soccer match against Newport 1-0 on Oct. 9 after scoring an early goal in the third minute—sophomore Sammy Hernandez passed to junior Jacob Hernandez—and improved their league record to 3-2 with their fifth shutout this season.  Philomath News
  • Philomath football finished a 33-6 win over Cottage Grove on Oct 9 at Herald White Stadium—Gavin Bennett ran for 85 yards including an 18-yard touchdown before coaches put in younger players, and the team now prepares for a 7 p.m. homecoming kickoff against Junction City.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High girls soccer won 6-3 at Newport on Oct. 9—improving their league record to 5-0 with key goals in both halves; the team will play on the road Tuesday in Sweet Home.  Philomath News
  • The Philomath High School volleyball team beat Sweet Home in straight sets on Thursday evening—winning 25-17, 25-14, 25-21—and improved to a 5–1 league record while staying near Cascade in the standings.  Philomath News
