CULTURE NEWS

  • OSU will host an Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration at PRAx starting 5 pm on Oct. 13—keynote speakers, a film screening of Free Leonard Peltier, and proclamations by Mayor Charles Maughan are on the agenda. Other events include a paddle on Oct. 12 at Broughton Beach Park and a celebration at Barbie’s Village on Oct. 13 in Portland.  The Corvallis Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Oct 9, the Philomath School Board installed Tom Klipfel as its new chair while Erin McMullen became vice chair. The board also welcomed two student representatives and discussed urgent safety repairs for the Clemens Community Pool—funding options are being explored.  Philomath News
  • Oregon State University spent $417 million on research in fiscal year 25, funding studies in areas like energy, health, and coastal safety. The report showed that the work made nearly an $800 million economic impact and mentioned a new innovation complex set to open in 2026 (details from OSU).  The Corvallis Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chintimini Wildlife Center warned that rising costs and a drop in funding may force cuts to its wildlife care and education programs — the nonprofit needs over $40,000 in donations during October to keep its mission alive.  The Corvallis Advocate
