COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The American Red Cross will host blood drives in Corvallis starting Oct 17—events include stops at the Library, Suburban Christian Church, Church of the Good Samaritan, Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers, First Presbyterian, First Alternative Co‑Op, and Calvin Presbyterian, with donors on Oct 20 receiving a bonus $10 e‑gift card and prize entry. Corvallis residents will also begin the Fall Leaf Collection Program on Oct 20—leaves will be picked up weekly and free drop‑off sites are available at Dr. MLK, Jr. Park, Pioneer Park, 2392 NW Garyanna St, and Crystal Lake Sports Park.  The Corvallis Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Philomath School District is seeking two local residents to volunteer on its Budget Committee to review the annual spending plan and provide taxpayer oversight; applicants must reside within the district (and not be district employees) and submit applications by Oct. 31 to serve a three-year term ending in June.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chris Goldfinger, an OSU marine geologist, warned that a major Cascadia quake could trigger seismic activity along the San Andreas Fault and lead to emergencies across the West Coast. The study published Sept. 29 found similar deep-sea records in past events — a link that comes after Gov. Kotek ordered state buildings to be made earthquake safe.  Philomath News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 12th annual Lilly's Lope for Hope, a 5-kilometer race and fun run to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health, will be held Saturday at Philomath City Park—check-in starts at 9 a.m. and the timed race begins at 10 a.m.—and a community resource fair runs until 11 a.m.  Philomath News

  • In September, the Corvallis housing market had 51 closed sales — a 26.7% drop — with a median price of $525,000 and sellers netting nearly 100% of the list price. Nearby Albany and Lebanon also reported fewer transactions and longer days on market despite steady or rising prices.  The Corvallis Advocate

  • Philomath High’s girls soccer team won 6-0 at Sweet Home on Tuesday, Oct. 14 with standout play from sophomore Kya Bolton — who scored or assisted on five goals — as the Warriors stayed unbeaten in league play. The team will face Stayton on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.  Philomath News
