COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local artists and craftspeople will fill Philomath Scout Lodge for the annual Autumn Craft Show this weekend; the free event will run on Saturday from (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Sunday from (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at 660 Clemens Mill Road offering handcrafted items and unique treasures.  Philomath News
  • The community is invited to attend the annual Veterans Day assembly at Philomath Middle School on Nov. 7 — local veterans are especially encouraged to join. The event will start at 8:10 a.m. at 2021 Chapel Drive with guest speaker Eric Niemann and school band and choir performances — a reception by the Excel leadership class in the library will follow.  Philomath News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters in Siuslaw National Forest have begun pile burning due to cool, damp fall weather, local U.S. Forest Service officials said. The burning will continue through spring in Hebo and Central Coast Ranger Districts to reduce fire hazards—residents may see minimal smoke near trails and roads but no area closures are planned.  KEZI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philomath received $80,000 in regional transportation funds to develop a plan that will improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. City Manager Chris Workman said the city will hire a consultant—review existing documents and gather community feedback—to meet ODOT requirements and secure state grants for future projects.  Philomath News

  • A ranking by Stacker using data from Pro Football Reference lists the top 50 NFL players born in Oregon based on weighted career value—this list covers players from cities like Portland, Salem, and Corvallis and spans from past greats to current stars as of the start of the NFL season. The ranking shows the legacy of Oregon talent in football and offers an easy look at career impact.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High won its home volleyball match over Cascade on Oct. 16, and a photo gallery shows key plays and celebrations—captured by photographer Andy Cripe.  Philomath News
  • Yesterday the Philomath High School girls cross-country team placed third at a meet in McMinnville even with a runner missing—sophomore Cassidy Smart set a personal record of 18:19.08 and moved to third on the school’s all-time list. The team will compete next Wednesday at Crystal Lake Sports Park with the girls starting at 5:10 p.m. and the boys at 5:40 p.m.  Philomath News
  • The Philomath High School boys soccer team lost 2-1 on Thursday night at Stayton in an Oregon West Conference matchup—leaving the Warriors with an 8-3 record while Stayton improved to 10-0-1. Philomath is set to play at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cascade.  Philomath News
  • On Thursday, Oct 16, Philomath High’s girls soccer team beat Stayton 3-1 at their home field—junior Angelica Morales-Marquez scored a header after returning from injury—and improved their record to 11-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The team will host Cascade on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. as they build on their homecoming success.  Philomath News
