COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peace Lutheran Church’s Ladies Guild will host its annual Holiday Bazaar at 2540 Applegate St. in Philomath on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.—the free event will feature handmade gifts, baked treats, quilt raffles and a section called Granny’s Attic with proceeds benefitting local charities such as the Philomath Youth Activities Club and Community Meal.  Philomath News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Benton County commissioners approved a $100,000 grant to the Corvallis School District for improvements at Osborn Aquatic Center—closed since October 2024—to help reopen the facility for swim meets, training and community recreation.  Philomath News
  • The City of Corvallis is inviting all residents to share their views on local services and quality of life in its biennial community survey, which expanded on October 20th after starting with a mailed survey last month—Polco will analyze the feedback and report it to the City Council. This effort will help guide future resource decisions for the community.  City of Corvallis
  • County planners favor expanding the Coffin Butte landfill as a staff report calls for approval while the project remains on appeal. Two public hearings start today at 5:30 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds Auditorium—locals may submit verbal and written comments before the board meets again in November.  The Corvallis Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath High School volleyball swept North Marion Tuesday with scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-12, boosting their 7-2 conference record—on senior night they will try to clinch a Class 4A playoff berth at home against visiting Newport at 6 p.m. on Thursday.  Philomath News
  • Sophomore Kya Bolton scored four goals in the first half as Philomath won 4-0 over Cascade on Oct 21, keeping its undefeated 8-0 league record and improving its overall mark to 12-1 while Cascade dropped to 3-9. The Warriors earned their second 4-0 victory over Cascade this season and will travel to North Marion on Thursday at 6 p.m. for their next league match.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High School boys soccer ended its Oregon West Conference match in a 0 to 0 tie with Cascade on October 21 at Cascade HS near Turner — leaving the Warriors in contention for second place. The team will honor seniors before playing North Marion at home tomorrow and then face Newport on October 28.  Philomath News
