GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Senator Sara Gelser Blouin and House Representative Sarah Finger McDonald submitted joint testimony to the Benton County Board of Commissioners opposing the expansion of the Coffin Butte landfill because they said it would worsen health, environmental and community risks. • More than 750,000 Oregonians who rely on SNAP will get no November payments because the government shutdown stopped federal funds after Oct. 31 — the state agency said it will update recipients on further delays and urged them to use free food resources in the community.  The Corvallis Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath High ended its home soccer game with North Marion in a scoreless tie on Oct. 23 after senior goalkeeper Jake McGaughy made a crucial penalty kick save in the final seconds—five yellow cards were issued, including a red for North Marion, and Philomath remains in playoff contention with a Tuesday game at Newport scheduled for 7 p.m.  Philomath News
  • Philomath High School girls soccer tied with North Marion 4-4 on Thursday during North Marion’s Senior Night to keep an unbeaten record in Oregon West Conference play.
