If you're up for a playoff match, the Philomath High School girls soccer team hosts Estacada at 2 p.m. Wednesday on its home pitch. The Warriors, champions, are seeded eighth. Estacada, the Tri-Valley Conference runner-up, is ninth. The winner faces the winner of 16th-seeded Baker at No. 1 The Dalles.

  • Admission: $11 for adults, $7 for students
  • Records: both teams enter at 11-3-1
  • Last meeting: Philomath won 9-1 in 2023

In Albany, Al Severson, who announced the Veterans Day Parade for 31 years, has been chosen grand marshal for the 75th annual parade. He's 75 and dealing with health problems, so he won't be able to attend, but he'll be there in spirit. The Gazette-Times also has a high school football story on the Bulldogs earning a share of a conference title.

The Wrap

Albany's Veterans Day Parade turns 75 this year, and its story starts with a local ex-Marine. In 1951, Jim Barrett and the Linn County Marine Corps League found the local Armistice Day celebration "spiritless" and set out to make Linn County the most patriotic in the country. It has historically been the third-largest Veterans Day parade in the U.S. Not a bad comeback.
