COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Corvallis Holiday Parade returns after a 5-year break with new organizers planning a different route. They hope the new course will bring back the festive spirit for local residents.  Corvallis Gazette-Times
  • The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library’s Holiday Book Sale will start Friday at the main meeting room on NW Monroe Ave and run through Saturday with a wide selection of books, CDs, DVDs, and book bags available for purchase plus refreshments and craft activities. The event, organized by Friends+Foundation, will feature special offers such as donors-only hours and free children’s books with backpack purchases.  The Corvallis Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Benton County Board of Commissioners approved the Coffin Butte Landfill expansion, which raises public health and environmental concerns that may affect future generations — a local group called VNEQS will file an appeal on December 5 to try to stop the expansion. Community members are being urged to support the appeal as the fight to protect the region’s environment continues.  The Corvallis Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials said that about 360,000 Oregonians have received this season’s COVID-19 vaccine—21% lower than this time last year—and they warn of a steady decline in immunization rates since 2020. They noted that about one million people got a flu shot, which is still 5% below last year's pace.  The Corvallis Advocate

  • Philomath High School’s boys basketball team expects to contend for a league title with two returning starters and a deeper roster — Coach Blake Ecker said the Warriors will use today’s scrimmages at Santiam Christian to prepare for a home opener against Crescent Valley tomorrow.  Philomath News
