  • The Corvallis Fire Department achieved a milestone when it staffed its first all-female crew in its 150-year history. The crew, including firefighters Katie Davenport, Madison Brink and Sherri Doll, celebrated with a shift dinner that highlighted their dedication and teamwork.  KEZI
  • Yulissa Magaña, a Master of Counseling student from Corvallis, was recently invited to join the Oregon Governor’s Racial Justice Council (designed to expand policy access for historically excluded communities), underscoring her commitment to mental health advocacy and equity in higher education.  The Corvallis Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Benton County Health Services and American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 530 NW 27th St. in Corvallis from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and donors between Jan. 1 and Jan. 25 will be entered for a Super Bowl trip for two.  The Corvallis Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Philomath's boys basketball team bounced back with a 56-46 win Friday at Marshfield HS in Coos Bay. Junior Esias Sapp scored 19 points (with five 3-pointers) and the team will play in the consolation final at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.  Philomath News
  • Philomath girls basketball team rallied with a 20-point lead by halftime and defeated Eagle Point 60-38 in the Spartan Classic opener at Corvallis High on Friday, Dec. 19; senior Shaylee May posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Philomath News
  • Philomath boys swim team captured first place at the Sweet Home Invitational on Friday, Dec. 19 at Sweet Home HS as they edged Marist Catholic with a score of 92 to 87. Lucas Brandt and Cam McLennan each earned two individual wins.  Philomath News
