ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, the Corvallis Fire Department and Benton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a water rescue near the Booneville Channel and Kiger Island Drive after a kayaker overturned amid high water, and he was safely brought ashore—he remained uninjured but cold.  The Corvallis Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A train derailment near Avery Park in January caused about 198.28 tons of urea pellets to spill into Marys River, raising concerns about increased nitrogen levels. On Nov. 25, DEQ fined Portland & Western Railroad $81,600 and ordered a review of wooden trestle bridges.  The Corvallis Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Corvallis Clinic is ending its OB-GYN services, leaving patients to find new providers and sometimes travel to Portland for care.  Corvallis Gazette-Times

  • City officials reveal 1,938 affordable (workforce) housing units are planned for 2026 in Corvallis following updated code changes; projects include apartments, senior housing, and cottage clusters, with additional market rate and middle housing developments in the pipeline.  The Corvallis Advocate
