🏛️ Government
A recent ICE arrest in Corvallis prompted Oregon lawmakers Cyrus Javadi and Tom Andersen to propose a constitutional amendment that would bar law enforcement from covering their faces to hide their identities.
They plan to introduce the bill in the 2026 short session and place it on the ballot—raising legal concerns—while ICE defends the need for face coverings.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office will host a Preparedness Fair and Public Safety Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, September 7 at the Philomath Frolic — Rodeo Grounds from 1 to 5.
The free fair will offer hands-on emergency tips and safety supplies, while cook-off proceeds will support the 4-Spirits Veterans Scholarship Fund.

Philomath High’s boys soccer team is set to kick off its season Monday at 4 p.m. at home after a tight 2024 finish that saw them push state champion Henley to a shootout—Coach Dave Ellis is hopeful about the team even as key seniors leave.

Philomath High won 49–0 Friday night at Clemens Field as Rocco De La Rosa scored five touchdowns—three on catches, one on a punt return and one on a pick-six while the defense shut out Newport.
The Warriors will play North Bend on Sept. 19 after their bye week.
